Match Report: Valencia CF end 21-22 season with home win over Celta Vigo (2-0)
Valencia CF welcomed Real Club Celta Vigo on the final day of the 2021-2022 season on Saturday the 21st of May at 5:30 pm kick-off time at Mestalla on Matchday 38 of LaLiga Santander.
Valencia CF took the game to the opposition right from the off with Carlos Soler forcing a save out of Dituro from a free-kick five minutes into the opening period at Mestalla.
Minutes later, Maxi Gomez’s effort blazed over the crossbar following a smart Foulquier move who knocked the ball on into Bryan Gil which was fired off target by the Uruguayan over the 10-minute mark.
Valencia CF kept on knocking on Ceta Vigo’s door trying to open the scoring halfway through the first half.
Persistence paid dividends in the 27th minute when Maxi Gómez chested the ball home from close range to put Valencia CF in front following a pinpoint Marcos André cross inside the six-yard box.
Jaume Doménch pulled off a reaction save to keep the scoreline at 1-0 in the closing minutes of the first half as Valencia CF edged out Real Club Celta by a 1-0 scoreline at half-time.
José Bordalás made a substitution after the restart. Bryan Gil made way for Denis Cheryshev. The early stages of the second period passed off amid treatment and substitution stoppages.
Maxi Gómez doubled Valencia CF’s lead on the hour mark as Maxi Gómez’s cross which came off Araujo’s head and in it went to put Valencia CF two goals to the good at Mestalla on the final day of the season.
Two-goal man, Maxi Gómez made way shortly after the water break for Yunus Musah who came on in his stead.
The remainder of the half played out without further incidents and Valencia CF eased past Real Club Celta Vigo claiming the last three points available on the final day of the campaign and closing out the season with a comfortable home win.
